Inspired by brooches and pins, these two versions of a DIY Ear Cuff will have your earrings moving in a whole new direction.
MAKE A CUFF >
I was inspired to make these two versions of a DIY Ear Cuff by this unique trend to wear larger pieces of jewelry on the ear, its a fresh take on the basic ear cuff.
TOOLS & MATERIALS:
- Pliers
- Wire (I used 20 gauge)
- Earring backs
- Glue
- Vintage earrings or assorted rhinestones etc.
step 1
For the first ear cuff I used some assorted rhinestones and a metal giraffe head.
Layout your pieces to determine your design.
step 2
Using your pliers bend your wire to match your design.
This will give you points where you will glue your rhinestones, etc.
Leave enough wire to go up and over your ear.
step 3
Glue all of your rhinestones and pieces to your wire.
Let dry.
step 4
Glue your earring back to the bottom of your design.
Let dry.
Having the wire go up and over your ear makes wearing this ear cuff much more comfortable and if your earring is heavy it will help to hold the weight.
Be sure to bend a small loop in the end of the wire that goes up over your ear.
step 5
For this second ear cuff I used a vintage earring that I had. It is a clip on and I left the clip back on. You can leave it on or take it off, its up to you.
Glue the earring back to the bottom of your earring.
Let dry.
step 6
Take a length of your wire and glue it to the top front of your earring.
Let it dry.
When the glue has dried bend your wire so that it will fit comfortably up and over your ear.
Cut off any excess wire and bend a small loop in the end.
Even though the earring I used wasnt very large it still needed the wire to go around the ear to keep the earring in place. Otherwise it will lean out or spin around.
A fun change from the usual dangling earrings, these large DIY Ear Cuffs are a new way to express your personality and make a statement.
If youre willing to wear the weight, you could even try this with a brooch, just be careful with the pin.
So fun, Cathy! I looove the giraffe one, it’s such a unique spin on the ear cuff trend! Great job!
