Halloween is all about costumes (and candy), but it’s also fun to add some subtle macabre into your everyday wardrobe. This Halloween Spider Loafers DIY is just the way to do it.
For this post I’m using products from Martha Stewart Crafts, they were generous enough to send me a large assortment of their paints and stencils to come up with a fun project for Halloween.
LET THE SPIDERS IN >
Supplies to make your Halloween Spider Loafers DIY:
- Martha Stewart Crafts Adhesive Stencils
- Martha Stewart Crafts Brass Liquid Gilding
- Martha Stewart Crafts Multi Surface Acrylic Craft Paint – purple yam and Florentine gold
- Martha Stewart Crafts Natural Bristle Brushes
- Martha Stewart Crafts Large Nylon Brush Set
- 30 medium sized stones
- Glue – I used Bond 527, you’ll need to use a very strong glue
step 1
Take your Martha Stewart Brass Liquid Gilding, your nylon brush and paint the heels of your shoes. I found this paint to cover really well, I didn’t need to paint multiple coats.
Be sure to paint all the way around your heels, don’t forget the inside.
step 2
I mixed the purple yam paint and the Florentine gold paint together. I mixed them because the gold glitter didn’t cover the way I wanted on it’s own and I liked the subtle effect of the purple showing through under the gold.
step 3
Peel your stencil off the backing and place it on your first shoe where you want it.
I made a half drop pattern on my shoes. I recommend laying out your pattern first, this will save you a headache later.
step 4
Once your stencil is placed, using your natural bristle brush, carefully paint your spiders.
As you move your stencil make sure the back of your stencil is clean so you don’t smudge paint on your shoes. You can rinse it out every 2 or 3 times if you want.
step 5
Take your stones and your glue and glue each one to your heels, covering the entire outside of your heels in stones.
I left a little space in between each stone.
I just really love the loafer trend for this fall. As far as flats go, they’re a great alternative to the ballerina slippers we’ve seen for so many seasons.
I knew when I got these fun paints and stencils from Martha Stewart Crafts that I would be embellishing some creepy loafers for Halloween. The subtlety of the spiders will also allow me to wear them past Halloween.
Let me know what kinds of creepy crawlies you put on your loafers or if you like the spiders too.
